Did anyone ever play cat's cradle growing up?

My personal headcanon is that cat's cradle games were a way of teaching young'uns how to perform some of the basic magical gestures for spell with a "teaching guide" (string wrapped around their fingers) and now it's just kind of a game that people play.

What headcanon do y'all have?
